Las Vegas law enforcement looking for wanted men after thwarted casino robbery
A casino blackjack dealer had a dangerous chemical substance squirted at him this week by two men who attempted to steal $115,000 in casino chips from his table.
It was reported on Tuesday that a guest of the Bellagio Hotel Casino and a casino employee were injured towards the end of Saturday evening when two men came up to the blackjack table and attempted to rob it, escaping with 23 gambling chips worth $5000 each.
Police have revealed that Michael Belton aged 24 from California was caught by hotel staff and detained by the police on $60,000 bail.
The police wish to question the other suspect who fled the scene and another man named as Carlos Rodrgiuez, who was due to rendezvous with them at the Mandalay Bay Hotel close by.
It has been revealed that unemployed Belton had responded to an advert about assisting in recovering cars put on Craigslist by Rodriguez. Belton was attempting to raise money to help his infirm grandparents. He was due to have received half of the money after the chips had been cashed in.
The plot revolved around Rodriguez raiding the Bellagio Casino, taking the gambling chips and exchanging them for cash. Belton who was disguised during the robbery let go of the chips when seized by staff. He has been detained on charges of burglary, conspiracy and attempt to commit robbery.
Since 2000, The Bellagio Hotel Casino has had 3 attempted heists. The most notorious was an attempted robbery by The “Biker Bandit” Anthony Carleo. Carleo, 29 was given a prison sentence of 9-27 years after admitting his guilt in the 2010 attempted robbery of $1.5 million in casino chips.
